Sure Power Consulting founded by veteran entrepreneur Steve Sutton and former FBI Special Agent and Corporate Executive Derek Somerville to address the growing demand for IT expertise in the Utility industry.

2012

List of large Utility industry clients continues to expand, including BC Hydro, Pacific Gas & Electric, and Glendale Water and Power. 

2014 

MAY: Announce partner relationship with Oracle Corporation, thereby expanding our delivery capabilities and deepening our expertise in Oracle solutions for the Utility industry.

NOV: Groundbreaking CIS Exception Management Solutions service offering launched for Oracle Customer Care & Billing programs.

2015

FEB: Sure Power’s founders launch Sierra Partners Consulting, a certified Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).

Derek Somerville

Chief Executive Officer

Derek Somerville is Co-owner and Chief Executive Officer of Sure Power Consulting. Under his leadership, Sure Power has evolved from start-up to an industry powerhouse, delivering millions of hours of high-impact consulting and advisory services to over 120 clients across the United States and Canada, and earning a reputation for excellence along the way.

With more than 25 years of proven executive leadership, Derek has driven transformative change at every turn. He spearheaded the complex post-merger technology integration (heavily Oracle-based) for DS Waters of America, a 6,000-employee bottled water giant born from merger. Rising quickly, he took ownership of $1 billion in revenue as Vice President of Customer Finance, then advanced to Vice President and General Manager of its Pacific Northwest operations.

Before that, at Pepsi MidAmerica, Derek served as Vice President of Finance and Administration, where he also led Information Technology. There, he orchestrated a sweeping enterprise-wide ERP rollout which seamlessly integrated Finance, HR, Payroll, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Mobile Sales and Inventory, and Asset Management.

Derek’s leadership is forged in service and high-stakes environments. As a Special Agent with the FBI, he was assigned to white-collar crime, public corruption, and anti-terrorism investigations. As a United States Marine with an Intelligence MOS, he served with distinction in Operation Desert Storm and in the intense operations of Mogadishu, Somalia, experiences that instilled resilience, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment.

A proud Murray State University alumnus (B.S.), Derek served as Student Body President and a member of the university’s Board of Regents.

From battlefield to boardroom, Derek brings grit, vision, and a relentless drive to build high-performing teams and deliver results that matter.

John Kirchner

VP of Finance

John Kirchner serves as Vice President of Finance at Sure Power Consulting, where he leads the company’s financial operations and partners closely with executive leadership to support strategic and operational decision-making.  With more than 20 years of financial leadership experience, he has strengthened liquidity, enhanced financial reporting, and helped position the firm for scalable growth within the energy and utility consulting sector.

Since joining Sure Power Consulting in 2015, John has strengthened the company’s financial infrastructure and improved performance by increasing cash flow, implementing automated reporting processes, and enhancing financial visibility.  He has improved financial flexibility while maintaining strong regulatory compliance and supporting continued organizational growth.

Prior to Sure Power Consulting, John held senior finance roles at Newell Brands, The Wendy’s Company, and BlueLinx Holdings, supporting financial planning and external reporting in public company environments.

John is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an MBA from Kennesaw State University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Georgia State University.  He is committed to building high-performing teams and strengthening financial discipline to support long-term organizational success.

TC O’Hara

VP of Service Delivery

TC O’Hara is a seasoned utility and technology executive with more than three decades of experience driving systems integration, business transformation, and strategic growth for power, water, and other utility organizations. With 28 years dedicated exclusively to the utilities sector, TC has an extensive track record of leading large-scale technology initiatives that align business strategy with operational outcomes.

In his current role as Vice President of Service Delivery at Sure Power Consulting, TC oversees delivery excellence and client success, helping utilities modernize core systems and improve performance across customer information, metering, asset, and ERP environments. He previously spent 15 years with the Oracle Utilities Global Business Unit, where as a Client Partner he was responsible for sales strategy, solution delivery, and customer lifecycle success for Oracle Energy and Water products, blending deep technical insight with commercial acumen.

TC’s career also includes executive leadership roles with North American consulting firms focused on Oracle and utility technology, where he built high-performing teams and drove business growth through consulting excellence and trusted client relationships.

Before entering the utility technology arena, TC served with distinction in the United States Navy, where his leadership and mission focus laid the foundation for a disciplined, strategic approach to complex problem solving and team leadership that continues to define his professional impact.

Tom Bodeep

Chief Operating Officer

Tom is a high-impact executive with a career defined by his ability to deploy human capital and drive workforce effectiveness at scale. Currently at Sure Power, he is accountable for the firm’s recruitment, resource management and the overall quality of service provided to clients. By bridging the gap between talent and operational excellence, Tom ensures that the firm’s human capital strategy directly translates into measurable value and superior client experiences.

Prior to joining Sure Power, Tom spent over a decade at North Highland, where he was instrumental in scaling the firm to $489M in revenue. He spearheaded the development of a highly successful Managed Services function from the ground up, implementing a comprehensive framework that matured the organization’s quality delivery culture. His leadership culminated in his role as Senior Managing Partner of the US Utility sector, where he managed relationships and execution at 14 major utility companies.

Throughout his career, Tom has remained an expert in the Human Capital space, helping large and mid-sized enterprises leverage their most important assets. He holds a B.A. in Business Management from Georgia State University. 

Matt Hawley

VP of Transformation Advisory

Matt Hawley is a trusted transformation leader and seasoned advisor known for delivering clear, honest guidance to organizations navigating complex changes. As Vice President of Transformation Advisory at Sure Power Consulting, Matt helps Power and Utilities across North America modernize their operations, leverage technology effectively, and enhance the value they deliver to customers.

With more than 20 years of client-side and consulting experience, Matt has built a reputation for pairing deep industry expertise with straightforward communication. He specializes in large scale business transformations enabled by technology, bringing a steady, transparent voice to teams making high stakes decisions. Prior to joining Sure Power Consulting, he served as Project Director for Madison Gas and Electric’s award winning Enterprise Forward program where he led the full lifecycle implementation of a comprehensive meter data management, customer billing, customer experience and mobile fieldwork platform.

Matt began his consulting career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he spent 15 years assisting utilities with technology enabled business transformations, implementation strategy, and the integration of regulatory and financial compliance into these efforts. His approach has remained consistent throughout: communicate candidly, ground recommendations in real world experience, and empower organizations to make informed decisions with confidence.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Computer Science from Colgate University.

Jeff Johnson

VP of Consulting Services

Jeff Johnson is Vice President of Consulting Services for Customer and Revenue Assurance at Sure Power Consulting, where he leads Oracle CIS implementation, stabilization, and managed services engagements for utilities across North America. He brings extensive experience in utility operations and enterprise system transformation, having begun his career in financial services as a licensed commodities trader before transitioning into the utility industry.

Jeff has played a leadership role in several pioneering Oracle CIS initiatives. He was part of the first Oracle Customer to Meter (C2M) implementation in the United States, where he supported post go-live planning and stabilization to ensure system reliability and operational continuity. He also led managed-services teams supporting the first Oracle CCS implementation in Canada, helping stabilize and quality assure the environment. This engagement evolved into a long-term managed services partnership, with Sure Power becoming the client’s primary provider for CCS and broader IT system support.

Prior to joining Sure Power, Jeff spent more than 20 years at Arizona Public Service, where he held leadership roles across field operations, construction, customer service, call center operations, and rates and regulatory functions. As Director of Customer Service, he served as the business lead for APS’s Oracle CC&B implementation, providing functional leadership throughout the program. Jeff’s combination of operational leadership and technical expertise enables him to guide utilities through complex system implementations while ensuring accuracy, reliability, and sustained operational success.

Dan Fagan

VP of Client Services

Dan Fagan is a results-driven business leader with a proven track record of driving revenue growth, strengthening client partnerships, and delivering operational excellence across the energy and utilities sector. Currently serving as Vice President of Client Services, Dan leads the strategic development and execution of sales initiatives through key client relationships. He partners cross-functionally with recruiting and operations teams to streamline processes, enhance scalability, and accelerate sustainable business growth.

With more than a decade of progressive leadership experience, Dan has built and managed high-performing business development teams, spearheaded multimillion-dollar pursuits in grid modernization, and cultivated partnerships with utilities, system integrators, and consulting firms across North America. His expertise spans sales strategy, contract management, proposal development, and supply chain oversight, supported by a disciplined, process-driven approach and a sharp attention to detail.

Prior to his corporate career, Dan served as a U.S. Navy officer, where he managed multimillion-dollar contracts, led diverse teams of military and civilian personnel, and oversaw complex financial and operational initiatives. His military foundation instilled a strong commitment to accountability, leadership, and mission-focused execution.

Dan holds a Bachelor’s in Engineering Science from Vanderbilt University and brings a unique blend of technical insight, operational rigor, and strategic business acumen to every organization he serves.

Jim Page

Chief Information Officer

Jim Page is a high-impact executive leader with over 20 years of experience bridging the gap between complex IT architecture and operational excellence. Currently serving as Chief Information Officer, Jim orchestrates the technology vision and infrastructure required to scale enterprise environments while maintaining 24×7 operational continuity.

Throughout his more than a decade-long tenure at Sure Power—transitioning from Director of Operations to COO and ultimately CIO—Jim has been the primary architect of the firm’s digital transformation. He successfully migrated the organization to a 100% cloud-based environment, led the enterprise-wide implementation of Salesforce, and integrated critical systems to facilitate seamless remote operations. His technical oversight is vast, encompassing SOC 2 Type II initiatives, Azure identity management, and advanced cybersecurity posture.

Beyond his technical pedigree, Jim is a disciplined strategist who has personally managed the intricate interplay between People, Process, and Technology. His leadership extends deep into the organizational culture; for over eight years, he served as one of the final gatekeepers for talent acquisition, interviewing nearly every hire to ensure alignment with company values.

Before joining Sure Power, Jim honed his operational rigor at DS Waters of America, where he managed P&Ls up to $40M and facilitated large-scale acquisitions. Known for his unwavering integrity and commitment to mentorship, Jim specializes in building scalable, automated solutions that drive efficiency and sustainable business growth.
